GEOLOGY DIRECTOR required for our client in MONGOLIA
Roles and Responsibility :

The Geology Director is responsible for planning and managing all geological work of the company and related companies.  It is the duty of the Geology Director to represent the interests of the Company and ensure that goals are met in an effective and cost efficient manner. The Director reports to the Managing Director in Mongolia as well as the Administrative Directors of semi-independent companies, and to various persons in Hong Kong or designated by Hong Kong for the purposes of given projects. Work includes but is not limited to:

  • Supervise, implement and interpret work on all levels of exploration including mapping and sampling, geophysics, drilling, and other

  • Training, mentoring and directing a team of Mongolian and ex-pat geologists and support personnel.

  • Plans and budgets for upcoming exploration work, make sure that minimum expenditures and requirements are met and that evaluation of existing properties proceeds in a timely manner to meet expiration deadlines.

  • Reviewing contracts and choosing contractors for geophysics, drilling, etc.

  • Plan drill programs and write relevant sections of contract, inspect equipment, supervise, anticipate issues and be able to solve problems and evaluate issues as they arise.

  • Review invoices and make judgments on fulfillment of obligations, recovery issues and redrill calls, payment disputes and etc.

  • Take responsibility for the actualization of the geological database, including quality, organization and completeness

  • Prepare or supervise the preparation of reports on all activities, ensuring quality and completeness, including in company reports and annual reports for the government.

  • Manage, support, coordinate and review the services of consulting companies engaged on company projects

  • Provide effective geological services to associated companies and projects

  • Assist Business Development office to identify and pursue new prospects and projects in Mongolia, and evaluate submittals, to build a future for the company

  • Ensure the purchase and maintenance of geologic equipment and supplies and software adequate to ensure the performance of the necessary field and office work

  • The Geology Director must be on call to handle needs of the company at any time during the Mongolian business hours, and as needed at other times during the execution of drill programs and other field programs

  • The Geology Director also will carry out administrative and managerial tasks as needed, including but not limited to rosters, job descriptions, performance reviews, planning of training and staff development, and disciplinary actions.

Skills and Requirements:

  • Preferably Thai national

  • Strong exploration background in a variety of metals and deposit types including but not limited to Copper, Gold and Coal. 

  • At least 15 years of experience including some managerial and administrative experience, demonstrated ability to manage a department of 10-20 people

  • Basic knowledge of geophysical techniques such as magnetic, IP, EM, etc. and the ability to help plan and evaluate the results of geophysical programs and recognize potential issues

  • Understanding of the design of sample programs and the ability to choose appropriate strategies, training personnel and supervising the implementation

  • Have a strong mapping background and the ability to design an appropriate mapping program and to train and supervise other geologists to improve their techniques.

  • Understand various laboratory methods and techniques, and be able to work actively with the laboratory to find the most appropriate approach and ensure the quality of the result

  • Have an understanding of the necessary QAQC measures in a resource evaluation program and design, implement and evaluate such measures

  • Basic understanding of various drill methods such as Diamond drilling, RC, PCD, large diameter, etc.  

  • Strong understanding of structural geology as well as ore deposit geology, and the effects of metamorphism and alteration on rocks and ore deposits.

  • GIS and database computer skills and the ability to learn additional software as needed.

  • Ability to handle a wide variety of tasks simultaneously

  • Highly organized and able to meet tight deadlines

  • Flexible and able to meet ongoing logistical and geological challenges in the implementation of a program

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, fluent English a plus
